I started my career as an apprentice carpenter with a major building company in Melbourne. My apprenticeship ran for five years and included formal technical college training alongside hands-on work on demanding projects. During those early years, I worked on multi-storey structural steel and concrete buildings, large industrial facilities, inner-city warehouse conversions, and significant renovation and extension projects.
One of the most influential projects in my early career involved major works on a historic Melbourne building originally constructed in the 1880s. That job required careful demolition, structural underpinning, and precise matching of existing materials and finishes. It taught me early on that good building isn’t just about speed — it’s about understanding structure, respecting what already exists, and getting the details right.

Bringing experience to Canberra homes

After encouragement from family already established in Canberra, I relocated and began working locally as a subcontract carpenter before taking out my builder’s licence. Not long after, I completed my first Canberra extension — a solid brick home in Manuka — and from there my residential work grew steadily.

Over the years I’ve built approximately 500 homes across Weston Creek, Belconnen, and Tuggeranong, along with more than 200 extensions and renovations throughout Canberra. Every project has added to my understanding of Canberra homes, blocks, soil conditions, planning controls, and the practical realities homeowners face when building or renovating here.

From there, we look at the most practical way to achieve that outcome — whether that’s a renovation, an extension, or a combination of both. My advice is always based on experience, not sales pressure. I also coordinate experienced local trades — carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and specialists I trust — ensuring quality workmanship and smooth sequencing throughout the build.

Building in Canberra isn’t the same as building elsewhere. Setbacks, building envelopes, stormwater management, easements, neighbour impacts, and site access all influence what’s possible on a block — and what isn’t.
